On December 11, 2013 twenty-three Newark public schools hosted a special My Very Own Library Scholastic Book Fair event. As a result of this day, 12,000 students walked away with 3 brand new, free books to take home on holiday break to build their own home libraries. It was a great day!

The kick-off celebrations began at Peshine Avenue School where a Winter Wonderland themed event ignited the love of reading in students, parents, and faculty. Special guests included Assistant Superintendent of Newark Public Schools Peter Turnamian, as well as representatives from the Foundation For Newark's Future, Scholastic Book Fairs, and My Very Own Library, and four esteemed children's book authors Alexander London, Alice Ozma, Michael Northrop, and Sharon Dennis Wyeth.

Following the kick-off event, the authors and special guests fanned out across the city, visiting several other Newark public schools to inspire even more students. More than 12,000 Newark students were prepared and motivated to read over the holiday break!
